Servo Hoist Systems

Knight Servo Hoist systems are user-friendly Intelligent Assist Devices (IAD) that provide controlled load movement by delivering the precision and speed each application requires. As a natural extension of the operator's own motion, the technology significantly improves the accuracy and repeatability of each task. Knight has integrated its servo systems with advanced Industry 4.0 technology, allowing hoist functions to be monitored remotely from anywhere in the production environment.

As a standard feature of the Servo Hoist, the patented safety drop stop, known as "SDS" (patent no. 10,099,904) , acts as a redundant safeguard. Two high-cycle chains run in parallel: one carries the load, while the other serves as a safety chain in case the main chain breaks.

Built-in benefits include eliminating wasted motion, reducing reaction time and minimizing the effect of inertia on heavy loads. The operator simply grips the handle and moves the load with instant response, a signature feature known as "Float Mode", with no buttons to press.

Standard and custom options are available to support a wide range of programmed product functions. Please contact a Knight Global representative for more information.

Servo Hoist Control Handles and Modules

Knight Global offers a wide range of Servo Hoist control handle models and configurations, including Electric Control Handles and Fixture Control Handles (for fixtures).

Servo Hoist Mounting Accessories

Knight Servo Hoist mounting accessories include a variety of workstation rail trolleys, fixture mounting options and custom-designed end effectors. Knight Global also offers a range of power supply and installation options for the system.

Servo Hoist Chain Replacement Kits

The patented chain and roller chain for Knight Servo Hoists are supplied as complete replacement kits. The working load limit depends on the chain thickness.

Knight Servo Hoist chain is a special-grade lifting chain, specially treated to extend chain life by up to 300%.

WHY CHOOSE KNIGHT SERVO?

Safe

The patented "SDS" Safety Drop Stop makes the Knight Servo Hoist the safest in the industry. A redundant safety chain runs in parallel with the load chain to prevent the load from falling if the main chain breaks.

Intuitive

Servo systems are highly intuitive and require almost no operator training. Operators get an instant response as soon as they grip the handle (Float Mode).

Programmable

Control lifting speed, acceleration/deceleration and virtual travel limits through Knight's Servo Studio software. Standard I/O connectivity supports interlocks and safety zone setup.

Powerful

Servo systems support the operator's natural motion, combining safety and ergonomics to make heavy loads feel almost weightless.

Durable

Chain outlasts wire rope for loads over 250 lbs. [113kg] and high duty cycles. Wire rope is prone to fraying or "birdcaging". Chain keeps the system virtually maintenance-free.

Fast

Maximum lifting speed 241 fpm (73.5 mpm) and maximum trolley speed 174 fpm (53.2 mpm). Precise positioning reduces cycle times.

Productive

Every Servo Hoist feature helps increase productivity, improve ergonomics and create a safer working environment for workers.

SELECTING A SERVO SYSTEM

When selecting a Knight Servo Control System, several factors need to be defined before choosing the right configuration. To help determine the correct configuration for your application, print, complete and send this configuration sheet to the Knight Quotation Department. For assistance or more information, please contact our Servo Department.

  1. System configuration — The KSHS series is supplied as a complete system with either an inline handle or a remote control handle. Most systems include one or the other, not both.
  2. Lifting capacity — Include the weight of the fixture and the part when determining this capacity.
  3. System type — Single chain combined with a Safety Drop Stop (SDS) chain.
  4. Coil cord length
    • Rail height — Define the suspension point. Depending on the system configuration, the distance from the bottom of the rail to the load hook point on the servo can be up to 4 ft.
    • Define the pick-up and set-down heights. These are critical parameters that affect the total stack-up height and the rail height.
    • Use the application drawing to determine the total stack-up height.
    • Select the appropriate coil cord.
  5. Trolley — Define the suspension points (cannot be a single point) and select the appropriate trolley. If you already have a trolley, an EBD1127 adapter plate is supplied free of charge.
  6. Hoist Control Setup — Define how up/down motion will be controlled and which configuration best suits the application. Note the following:
    • Inline Handle option:
    • Can the operator reach the handle at its highest position?
    • Is it safe for the operator to use an inline handle while this close to the load?
    • Can the operator always reach the Emergency Stop (Run-Stop) button regardless of load height?
    • Be sure to specify the additional cables when selecting the configuration:
      • Cable from LMM to OCI.
      • Cable from fixture handle to OCI.
  7. Plant Power — The servo system runs on 240VAC single phase. If the plant where the servo is installed only has 480VAC, you will need to order one of our 480VAC/240VAC isolation transformer options.
