Overview

The SDS air balancer carries a safety chain alongside the load chain to prevent a hoisted load from dropping, protecting operating personnel.

Knight’s Safety Drop Stop “SDS” Pneumatic Balancer is the safest balancer in the world due to its ability to prevent a hoisted load from dropping in the event that the primary chain fails. The “SDS” Balancer prevents potential injuries to your operating personnel.

Pneumatic Balancers are used in applications where a “float” condition is beneficial. Float allows for the hands-free final positioning of an object. The up/down speed of an pneumatic balancer is quicker when compared to a hoist and allows for a “feathering” operation when locating the load. The pendant controls are ergonomically designed incorporating color-coded thumb levers.

Knight chain balancers use a custom grade 80 lifting chain specially treated to increase the life of the chain by up to 300% over standard grade 80 lifting chain.

DetailsKnight's Rotary Unions (patent pending) are designed for industrial automation equipment applications. Their primary function is to prevent airlines, electrical cables and SDS chains from winding or tangling up during operation which can greatly reduce downtime as well as any potential equipment damage. The BPA2001 and BPA2002 Pneumatic Rotary Unions are used with Knight's chain Air Balancers. They each have up to (7) pneumatic passages (1/8″ NPT ports) to accommodate a variety of function commands (i.e. Common, Clamp, Unclamp, Rotate, Tilt, Start, etc.). The BPA2001 includes a 5mm chain nest, and the BPA2002 includes a 1.25 dia. #5 Pad Eye for the attachment of chains. The Pneumatic Rotary Unions can support capacities up to 1000 lbs. (454kg).

Note: Applications that use the standard "feather-able" style Up/Down Controls Pendant will require the use of (4) of the ports to allow for sufficient volume of air. Due to the limitations on the number of available ports, pneumatic logic will need to be located below the Rotary Union on the end effector rather than in an enclosure at the Balancer.

The BCS2213 and BCS2214 Feather-Touch Air Balancer Control handle is typically used for lightweight applications. This control handle is activated by an up or down movement of the control handle. Knight's Feather-Touch Control handles are available in a Horizontal handle (BCS2213) or Vertical handle (BCS2214) with standard hose lengths of up to 10 ft. [3m] (Straight Hose only).

Details

The BCS2215 and BCS2323 Dual Air Balance Control unit will support (2) different weights at Zero Gravity. For Lift Assist Devices (LAD) the first weight category is the unloaded assist with no part engaged. The second weight category is the assist with the part secured that it is intended to lift/move.

The weight of the part cannot vary more than +/- 2.5 lbs from the setting point of the regulator or there will be drifting either in the UP or DOWN direction depending on if the weight is more or less of the original set point.

Knights Dual Air Balance Control units are available in a straight (BCS2323) or coiled (BCS2215) hose that comes in standard length of 10 ft. [3Meter].
