400kg Push Mini Crane Paired with Electric Tractor

A customer manufacturing vacuum components in a cleanroom needed a compact crane to lift parts weighing several hundred kilograms from pallets onto machine tables and back. The cleanroom doesn't allow a fixed overhead crane, the epoxy floor can't be drilled, aisles are narrow, and the equipment has to be light enough for one person to move to each workstation.

FullSharp supplied a 400 kg semi-automatic mini crane: electric lifting/lowering and boom rotation, moved by pushing by hand. For this project, the customer attached an electric tow tractor to the back of the crane, so when it needs to move to another area or carry a heavy part over a distance, the crane travels entirely on electric power, without having to buy the more expensive fully automatic crane model.

Push or Electric: How They're Combined in This Project

Normal operation: the crane stays fixed at the working position, the operator uses push buttons to lift, lower, and rotate the boom, then pushes by hand for fine adjustments of a few dozen centimeters. Foot-brake casters lock the crane in place while lifting.
When moving farther: the electric tow tractor hooks onto the crane's base, the operator steers the tractor and drives it electrically to the new area, even with a heavy part hanging from the hook. No manual pushing effort, and no second person needed.
Cost: buying a push mini crane plus an electric tow tractor costs less than a fully automatic electric crane, and the tow tractor can also be used elsewhere in the plant, such as towing carts or pallets.
