These projects use electric manipulators with an articulating arm, from an 80 kg servo-assisted unit to 100–200 kg models with a 3 m arm. The most frequent task is clamping and pulling the air shaft out of a material roll core, then lifting and turning the roll to its next station without manual handling.
The jointed arm reaches between machines and around obstacles, which suits shops already crowded with equipment. Other units tilt glass panels in a glass factory and handle parts in a steel plant. The end tool is built for each product. See the electric articulating manipulator.
