A smart manipulator differs from a standard one in its controls: sensors balance the arm to the weight of the load, so the operator pushes with the same light force on heavy or light parts, and the joints lock to hold a part still. One unit runs on electricity and air; another is a pneumatic sheet lifter with a safety alarm.
One project sits in a cleanroom. The smart manipulator range uses check valves, an air reservoir and automatic joint brakes, so the part does not drop if air is lost or the handle is released. See the smart manipulator.
