Wheel rims are heavy and slippery, forcing workers to hug them close to the body just to carry them from a pallet to the work table. Each station sits some distance apart, so the load has to be carried on foot. A rim that knocks the floor or another rim damages the surface finish.

FullSharp installed a jib crane on a mobile base, using a steel rail as the arm with a pneumatic cylinder handling the lift. The cylinder gives smooth motion and stops precisely at the needed height. The whole unit can be pushed by hand, so it follows the work around the shop instead of staying fixed in one spot.

Mobile Jib Crane for Lifting Wheel Rims with a Pneumatic Cylinder

A mobile-base jib crane with a steel rail and pneumatic cylinder, lifting a car wheel rim in the shop.

Equipment Installed

  • Mobile push base: a wheeled frame that moves the whole unit to the work location without bolting it to the floor.
  • Steel rail arm: a load-bearing rail beam that lets the trolley run in and out, adjusting reach to where the rim is placed.
  • Pneumatic cylinder: smooth, steady lifting that stops at the desired height without jerking the load.
  • Wheel rim holding tool: a contact surface shaped to cradle the rim, holding it firmly without scratching the finish.
  • Lockable wheels: lock during operation to keep the unit steady, especially when lifting at full reach.

Benefits for the Factory

Follows the work

The mobile base lets one unit serve several stations instead of fixing a crane at each one.

Smooth lifting

The pneumatic cylinder runs evenly so the rim never jerks or wobbles while moving.

Protects the rim finish

The holding tool cradles the rim precisely and lowers it gently, so the paint and alloy surface stay scratch-free.
