Aerospace components are usually moderately heavy but finely machined, so a hard knock ruins them. Lifting by hand or with a rigged sling is both slow and prone to impact. Production areas also change layout frequently by order, so drilling the ceiling or anchoring bolts into the floor is not an option.

FullSharp installed a pneumatic jib crane on a mobile base, with the entire load resting on the steel base so nothing touches the building structure. Compressed air balances the load, and the operator only guides the part's direction — releasing the handle leaves the arm holding its position.

Mobile-Base Pneumatic Jib Crane for an Aerospace Component Workshop

Pneumatic jib crane on a mobile base, installed at the aerospace component machining area.

Equipment Installed

  • Pneumatic swing arm: an air-driven rotating joint that follows the operator's hand and stops as soon as it's released.
  • Mobile base: a steel base with wheels and outriggers, rolling the crane to another work cell without drilling the floor.
  • Control handle: lift/lower buttons on the handle itself, operated with one hand while keeping eyes on the part.
  • Air filter and safety valve assembly: filters moisture from the compressed air and holds the load if pressure is lost, so the part cannot drop.

Benefits for the Factory

No ceiling drilling

All the load goes down through the base, so leased buildings or weak ceilings can still use it.

Light, precise lifting

Compressed air balances the weight, so the operator only guides direction instead of straining.

Moves with the work

Changing the production layout just means rolling the whole unit, with no need to disassemble and reinstall.
