FullSharp installed a 1 ton floor-standing gantry crane with an electric hoist and a battery-powered vacuum lifter for large, brittle cemboard panels in a staging area with no load-bearing ceiling. The hoist travels the full beam to cover the whole stack, and the vacuum pad grips the panel surface evenly, so no cables are threaded underneath.

Cemboard panels are large, heavy, and brittle, so even two people carrying one can easily crack a corner or snap the sheet. The material staging area has no load-bearing ceiling structure, so lifting equipment cannot be hung overhead.

FullSharp installed a 1-ton gantry crane standing on the floor, with a crossbeam carrying an electric hoist that travels the full length to cover the entire stacking area. A battery-powered vacuum lifter grips the panel surface evenly, lifting the whole sheet without threading cables underneath.

Equipment installed

  • 1-ton gantry crane: two legs standing on the floor with a crossbeam rated for 1 ton, with no need to attach to the roof trusses.
  • Electric hoist: raises and lowers electrically at a steady speed, with a brake holding the load when the control button is released.
  • Battery-powered vacuum lifter: a rechargeable-battery pump drives suction cups spread evenly across the panel surface, with no power cable to trail behind.
  • Vacuum gauge and alarm: continuously monitors suction, giving an early warning if pressure drops below a safe level.

Frequently asked questions

How do you lift large brittle boards without cracking them?

Grip the board surface with a vacuum lifter that spreads the hold evenly, instead of carrying it by hand or threading slings underneath. The panel is lifted level and does not flex at the corners.

What if the ceiling cannot carry a crane?

A gantry crane stands on its own legs on the floor, so the load never goes into the roof. In this project a 1 ton gantry covers the whole stacking area.

Why use a battery-powered vacuum lifter?

It runs without a power cable to the pad, so the hoist can travel freely along the beam. FullSharp sizes the pad and battery unit to the real panel size and weight.
