The reeved balancer series is built primarily for loads above 450 lbs [204 kg]. The pulley arrangement doubles the mechanical advantage, at the cost of half the stroke of a standard balancer of the same cylinder size.
Reeved balancers are supplied as standard with a swivel hook on the pulley for flexible, safe operation. Size the working load at 80% of the rated capacity to allow for normal fluctuation in the plant air system. Units are rated at 100 psi [6.8 bar].
Example: plant air at 60 psi, a 350 lbs balancer → 0.60 × 350 = 210 × 0.80 = 168 lbs of actual working capacity.
How Reeving Works
Double the Capacity
The cable or chain passes over a pulley block and back to a fixed anchor, so the load is carried on two falls instead of one. The same cylinder and the same air pressure then lift twice the weight – up to 1,400 lbs [635 kg] on the largest models.
Half the Stroke
Because the load rises half as far as the cable travels, the usable stroke is halved – 26 to 55 in [685 to 1,397 mm] depending on model. Check the stroke against the lift height needed before selecting a reeved unit.
To convert a standard balancer, add the BPA2065 cable pulley (RKBA) or BPA2066 chain pulley (RKBC).
