External Safety Retract Control
Series: KBA / KBC / RKBA / RKBC / TKBA / TKBC – EX
The external safety retract control is an adjustable feature that controls the vertical travel speed of the balancer. When the load is released, the cable or chain retracts slowly into the unit instead of accelerating upwards. A hydraulic damper applies resistance to the thrust bearing, giving a slow, controlled retract.
The EX range is normally specified for two particular situations:
- Where the end effector on the balancer is a light hook lifting a heavy part.
- Where the part tends to stick in the dunnage.
In both cases the retract control stops the cable or chain shooting upwards once the load comes free, protecting the operator.
Example: plant air at 60 psi, a 350 lbs unit → 0.60 × 350 = 210 × 0.80 = 168 lbs of working capacity.
Standard Balancer
The internal centrifugal retract control limits free-fall speed, but when a heavy part is released – or suddenly pulls free from the dunnage – the light end effector accelerates upwards with the cable or chain.
EX Balancer
A hydraulic damper applies resistance to the thrust bearing, so the cable or chain retracts at a slow, adjustable and repeatable speed no matter how abruptly the load is released.
